1930s Effanbee 10" Patsy BABYKIN – Original Layette, Bracelet & Wonderful Wardrobe

Sweet little Babykin... all she needs is her halo.

This exceptionally lovely little 10" Effanbee Patsy Babykin dates from the early 1930s and is one of the most endearing—and difficult to find—babies in Effanbee's celebrated Patsy family.

Babykin is the wonderful little all-composition infant with the distinctive drawn-up baby legs, molded hair and irresistible baby hands. At only about 10" from head to toe, she has all the personality of her larger Patsy relatives tucked into one very small package.

And this particular Babykin is a beauty.

Her original complexion remains remarkably fresh, with wonderful rosy cheek color, delicately painted brows and lips, and an especially appealing face. Her brilliant green eyes are striking against that soft pink coloring.

Her original blown glass eyes remain in place, with their irises professionally replaced in a beautiful, vivid green that is especially striking against her soft pink complexion. Some of the original brush lashes have been lost to time, as can be seen in the close photographs.

Otherwise, the doll has not been repainted, repaired or restored. She has been gently cleaned and retains her lovely original finish, including wonderful rosy cheek color, delicately painted brows and tiny red lips. There is very fine age crazing barely visible on portions of her composition body and a small area of paint wear at the back of one arm joint; her pretty face remains particularly lovely. Please enlarge the photographs, which are an important part of her condition description.

And happily, Babykin still wears her little metal Effanbee heart bracelet, engraved with her name—a wonderful original detail that is so often missing.

She is appropriately marked at both the nape of her neck and on her back. Patsy Babykin is also pictured in Patricia N. Schoonmaker's Patsy Doll Family Encyclopedia, Vol. II.

A Little Wardrobe All Her Own

Babykin comes with several wonderful original Effanbee pieces as well as carefully chosen vintage additions.

Her original layette includes her little undershirt and flannel diaper, pink flannel “eiderdown” robe, and matching booties.

I've added a particularly pretty vintage pale aqua ensemble consisting of an embroidered cotton baby dress, bonnet, bloomers, and slip. The ensemble was professionally made using fabric from an infant's dress, giving it just the right delicacy and scale for this tiny baby. She also has aqua knitted booties and a darling crocheted capelet with matching bonnet.

And tucked in with her things is the charming pink and white Effanbee eiderdown bunny blanket shown in the photographs.

Everything works together beautifully—the palest aqua against her rosy complexion and extraordinary green eyes, then the soft pink eiderdown for bedtime.

All of the clothing is in excellent vintage condition.

This isn't simply a little Patsy Babykin to fill a space in a Patsy family collection. With her beautiful original coloring, molded curls, drawn-up infant legs, original bracelet and layette, and wonderfully coordinated wardrobe, she makes a complete little nursery presentation all by herself.

A very special early Effanbee baby—and one I suspect will be difficult to replace once she's gone.
