What an ADORABLE and RARE little doll baby... this is a 1937 all composition LITTLE CHERUB doll dressed in a 1930s factory outfit and in exemplary CONDITION... and she is absolutely wonderful. Standing just 11" tall, she is a prize for any collector of composition dolls.
This Cherub doll herself is all original, with only the lightest of wear given her 85 years since she was 'born."
Includes her own "Little Cherub" pink rattle~
Manufactured by the Averill Doll Company which was started by Georgene Averill of the 'Madame Hendren' line of dolls, this exceptionally darling baby was designed by an employee of Averill... Harriet Flanders. Harriet originally wrote a book entitled "Little Cherub" and the doll was subsequently designed to accompany the book.
Very few of these little ones were made, and fewer still have survived well over the years. She is the smaller of the two sizes made (larger one 17") and is head to toe in BEAUTIFUL condition with only the lightest intermittent crazing. She is appropriately marked on the nape of her neck "Harriet Flanders / 1937".'
This is a beautiful example of this very special doll, and she is presented to you in a VINTAGE OUTFIT -- includes a cute pair of vintage striped rayon socks. OUtfit includes a pair of silky 'rhumba' style panties, pink striped rayon socks, pink dotted swiss organdy dress with attached slip, and pink corduroy coat with matching wide-brimmed bonnet (made in Japan).
Have you ever seen anything quite like her?!!
I have always loved this little doll, because of her story, and her impish flirty glance is endearing to the heart, wouldn't you say?
Cherub's head rotates on the neck flange easily, allowing you to place her in an 'infinite' variety of poses... really makes her little personality shine. Her body has bent arms and toddler legs -- Beautiful coloring and pink flesh tone lend this little sweetie pie all the desirable characteristics of a highly collectible doll... truly a fabulous find for those who love composition dolls.
I have included many photos for your assessment of this sweetest of baby girls... simply superb! Adorable face!
See her TWIN dressed in a matching blue corduroy coat and bonnet and blue dress, also listed in my shop.
Beautiful blonde molded and painted hair is perfection with Darling little 'clumps' of sunny yellow color array in a burst around her little head... like a halo for the little angel she is!
If you reference Ursala R. Mertz book, Vol. I "Collector's Encyclopedia of American Composition Dolls", you will find examples of this darling doll.
