Awesome vintage original Effanbee romper from a Dy-Dee Lou layette trunk.
SUPER RARE!
My 2nd and 3rd photo show my early 15" Dy-Dee dressed in the same outfit as she came to me in her display box... this is added for REFERENCE ONLY, so you can see this outfit is rare but has been verified/documented.
This is a vintage romper and bonnet set for your 20" Dy-Dee Lou baby doll from the 1930s. I received this beautiful set years ago in my Dy-Dee collecting. I was never certain it was original Dy-Dee, as its design is so remarkable compared to documented clothing in Barbara Hilliker's Dy-Dee book. But this is not the first time I have found original Dy-Dee clothes that are unique, and can only attribute this to perhaps a special FAO Schwarz edition.
I revived my thoughts on this set when I received a 20" Dy-Dee Lou with a pretty strawberry blond caracul wig -- a true rarity in and of itself if you have studied Dy-Dee well -- who came in her original pink dress and bonnet in the exact 'style' of this romper... both have a rather interesting fold back to the wide hat brim next to the ribbon ties; the very 'blousy' puff sleeves; polished cotton fabric, and similar lace trim. The buttons on this blue romper are certainly 'Dy-Dee'.
What a rare and special set for your early Dy-Dee Lou baby. It's in minty condition and I don't believe it was ever laundered all these years. Nonetheless, it is clean and bright with no fading to the pretty blue fabric; there are a couple of small breaks in the lace, and a little mark at the back down near the bottom... I'm certain it would wash out with gentle care, but I wanted to keep it as received.
