Vintage 1951 Ideal African American Sara Lee baby doll COLLECTION of ARTICLES regarding her history, and reflections on her development over the decades.

 

I received this charming and historically informative array of articles, photo, and postcard sometime ago. It is an amazing collection of information all about Sara Lee. The articles come from a friend of the owner of the museum that was in Belle Grade, Florida and the articles are dated from 1992 through 1999. 

 

Collection includes~

  • Color postcard photo of Saralee from the "Black Doll Convention" dated 1993 -- "To Betty, Keep your eyes on Saralee, Best, Cartheda Konchellal 5/23/93"
  • Polaroid color photo of 'Betty' (I presume) with Cartheda Konchellah holding a Saralee doll, dated 5/23/93
  • Newspaper article entitled, "A Living Doll," dated Sunday, October 18, 1992 with photo of Saralee creator Sara Lee Creech including photo of her with her creation, Saralee AND photo of Cartheda Konchellah who was one of the models for the deveopment of the doll (one of the little girls photos pictured at the top of the next article)
  • Article from December 17, 1951 magazine (copy) -- "Doll for Negro Children"
  • 5-Page Article from July-September 1992 "ARTS" magazine celebrating Zora Neale Hurston Roof Garden Museum African-American culture and creativity

 

These articles are a comprehensive and complete historical review of Ideal Toy 1951 Saralee doll.
