GORGEOUS Early 1950s American Character 15" TINY TEARS Doll ~
 
Oh, what a pretty baby!
 
This is the wonderful medium-sized Tiny Tears, measuring approximately 15"—a size that feels especially natural in the arms of a young "little mommy." She is one of the desirable early Tiny Tears babies with the hands-down rubber body, beautiful molded brown hair and wonderful green sleep eyes, dating to approximately 1951–1952.
 
And her COLORING! This is the rich, warm HIGH COLOR found on these wonderful early babies. Her original rosy cheek blush is still beautifully present, giving her that irresistible just-in-from-the-cold complexion that makes the earliest Tiny Tears so appealing.

Her beautiful brown molded hair is just about flawless, retaining wonderful paint and detail. Her original lower painted lashes remain well-defined and clear; one original brow remains. Her striking green sleep eyes are well fitted, with thick, even and full brush lashes—and close them for bedtime and she becomes an entirely different sweet baby.
 
After nearly 75 years, she is simply remarkable.
 
Of course, with an early Tiny Tears, a pretty face is only part of the story. The rubber body is where condition really counts.
 
And this baby's rubber body is EXCELLENT.
 
It remains strong, flexible and SQUEEZABLE, with NO CRAZING. There is only the slight variation in rubber coloring one expects after all these decades. Her fingers and toes are complete and strong, so there need be no fear of dressing and redressing her.
 
She is ready to be fussed over!

Her lovely pink dimity dress is in near-mint condition, still fresh and beautiful after all these years. With its matching ruffled bonnet, full slip and those wonderful little knit booties, it makes a classic early Tiny Tears presentation.
 
But there is one piece in this layette that deserves a paragraph all its own...
 
THE ROBE!
 
Her original soft flannel kimono robe is covered with a wonderfully whimsical assortment of colorful little animals and storybook figures in pink, blue and green. It is quite unlike the familiar Tiny Tears robe prints I have encountered over the years.
 
And I do mean over the years...
 
I have collected and sold Tiny Tears dolls and their clothing for decades and have handled well over 100 original Tiny Tears robes in the 11", 13", 15" and 18" sizes. This is the only example I have ever seen in this particular print.
 
I am always reluctant to call something "rare" simply because I haven't seen another—but after that many Tiny Tears robes, I think it is fair to say that this one is certainly VERY unusual.
 
And absolutely delightful!
 
Taken altogether, this is a special early Tiny Tears: gorgeous high coloring, striking green eyes, nearly flawless molded hair, an excellent uncrazed and still-squeezable rubber body, and a remarkably complete original layette with one very special robe tucked into the bargain.
