This is a Rare 1948 Eugenia Composition Personality Pla-Mate Doll measuring 16 inches tall. The Pla-Mate dolls are discussed and shown in "Composition Dolls 1900-1950 Volume 2" by Ursula R. Mertz on page 211.
She measures 16" tall and her body is not marked. Ursula says in her book, "This is one of a set of five Personality Pla-Mate dolls produced by Eugenia Doll Co. for Montgomery Ward in 1948. She is an all composition, fully jointed doll with original dark auburn mohair wig, brown eyes and a closed mouth" - and I might add a watermelon smile with deep dimples! Her eyes open and close nicely, she has full brush lashes, dark auburn mohair braided wig, and beautiful composition to her body with little to no crazing; tight stringing, sparkling brown eyes, and rosy blush to her cheeks, five eyelashes in the corner of each eye, and interesting feathered brown brows. Her hands, elbows and knees are gently blushed, and she has beautiful pink polished nails.
She is in excellent clean condition, and she comes dressed ALL ORIGINAL in a sunny yellow, dotted Swiss frock with yellow organdy bodice; there is a matching ribbon sash around the waist tying in a bow in back. The clothes are in excellent condition with only a single small hole at the bottom of the skirt. The black oilcloth shoes and white socks have never been removed.
Roberta (along with all of the Pla-Mate dolls) is a really pretty and very rare doll.
