Vintage 1938 Effanbee 11" WONDER BABY doll in her 'airplane' case with original clothes and accessories.

NOW DOCUMENTED as the EFFANBEE WONDER BABY... see photos.

First and ONLY example of this doll ever seen before. I purchased this set a few years ago as I was intrigued with the inside cover graphics and their obvious identical likeness to the early Effanbee Dy-Dee doll graphics from 1937. No where on the case or the graphics appears the name Effanbee. The included rubber baby doll inside was not so appealig as Dy-Dee, though on careful inspection its rubber body is very much similar to the Dy-Dee. I closed the box and put it away until I ran across it in the doll room... buried deep :-)

I decided to gently launder baby's soiled clothes and that is when I found the gown had the familiar cloth tag like the Dy-Dee dolls sometime had sewn in the back bodice seam. Well, that along with the blue sheet that indicated the contents of the set being identical to thosse in Dy-Dee sets allowed me to conclude this dolly and her set were indeed Effanbee factory original.

I cleaned up baby as best as I can, but you can see her rubber is streaked, and misshapened on one arm especially. Interestingly the rubber on her legs is still soft and pliable. While dressing her the 1/4" tube holding her head on deteriorated enough that I had to reinforce it to ensure it stays on... she is really just for display as she comes. She might not be the most attractive little one in the nursery but I think she has plenty of attitude and personality if you look closely.

Her clothes were soiled and still even after laundering retain aspects of her storage transferring to the fabric, so there is light staining from her rubber onto the fabric... not bad... surely indicative of her aging process.

AS YOU CAN SEE... by coincidence I ran across my long lost copy of my 1938 Effanbee SALESMAN'S CATALOG very recently.... just in time for me to offer this Sweetie Pie for purchase today. You can see here a photo of the inside back cover of the 16-page catalog that has the Effanbee advertisement to retailers announcing this new WONDER BABY to meet the demand for a less expensive doll than our EFFANBEE DY-DEE Baby.

One of a kind HISTORICAL SET for Effanbee doll collectors.
