Vintage 1940s Effanbee 14" Skippy Tweed Set. Adorable and endearing Skippy, commonly known as Patsy's boyfriend. A wonderful addition to Effanbee's Patsy Family of dolls, this Skippy is all composition (as opposed to the earliest issue with the compo limbs and cloth stuffed body) and comes with his HUGE ALL ORIGINAL WARDROBE in a vintage suitcase.

This amazing and RARE set belonged to some little girl (or boy!) back in the 1930s and what you see included here is the complete set 'as found'. Imagine the fun of having such a great boy doll and dressing him.

Marks: Effanbee Skippy © P.L. Crosby. Composition socket head on five-piece jointed composition body, painted blonde hair with forelock curl, painted features, blue side-glancing eyes, v- shaped brows. Composition in excellent condition with only minor intermittent very light crazing; his left hand has paint loss (I can touchup and seal if buyer requests but wanted to keep him original, as found, for this listing).

Skippy is a lucky boy, indeed! He has a remarkable and rare set of SIX original outfits:

  1. RARE and desirable original TWEED set -- shirt, bow tie, pants, belt, jacket, cap, brown oildcloth shoes and socks.
  2. Glad Togs TAGGED wool felt 'pea coat' with brass buttons and NRA insignia on the left sleeve; VERY VERY Rare matching cap with brim (that's the rare part, as the more common issue is the beret style) and brass buttons.
  3. Extremely rare Effanbee TAGGED mustard yellow overalls, paired with a Glad Togs buttoned stripe shirt.
  4. Extremely rare "Little Lord Fauntleroy" style 'Sunday Best' three-piece shortall set -- rayon blouse with santouche tie, and dark blue velvet shorts that button to the shirt, and black jacket with jaunty red bakelite buttons (one missing on front... one each buttons on the sleeve -- ostensibly to prevent our little guy from wiping his nose on his sleeves!).
  5. Classic Effanbee two-piece shortall set -- blouse and shorts that button to keep together.
  6. Skippy's yellow rain slicker with matching bucket-style hat and PRISTINE black zipped rain boots (still soft and pliable!). A darling Skippy graphic is screened on the backside of the coat.

There is a set of WOODEN SKITTLES in a wooden box, a 48-star American flag, a pair of original cotton striped socks, and a wood tam hat included as well.

All clothing was found neatly tucked into this vintage blue suitcase. In the bottom of the suitcase is a neatly made bed --coverlet and pillows; not quite useful for Skippy but darling anyway :-)

Obviously the suitcase was not originally issued with Skippy, but he came with it and so he goes with it.

I DO have at least a couple of original Effanbee Skippy / Patsy trunks that I will list separately in my shop with the idea someone will want to have one to display Skippy and his clothes with it.

The GLAD TOGS items were produced aftermarket / alongside Effanbee and other popular maker dolls to expand their wardrobes. They are made of high quality materials and work(wo)manship and are highly regarded and desirable additions to any Effanbee doll's wardrobe.

This is an AMAZING opportunity to pick an historically correct Skippy collection.
