Oh, what a sweet little armful of baby!
This darling early Effanbee Patsy Babykin is the much-loved infant version with those wonderful bent, drawn-up baby legs — approximately 10" of chubby 1930s baby sweetness.
She has a particularly appealing little face with warm brown sleep eyes, beautifully molded curls, softly blushed cheeks and the tiniest pursed red mouth. Her wonderfully modeled baby hands are irresistible — one naturally finds its way right up to her mouth!
Babykin wears her little metal EFFANBEE DURABLE DOLLS heart bracelet and comes with a particularly nice collection of original Effanbee clothing along with several carefully chosen vintage additions.
And her layette is really quite special~
Her original very pale green organdy dress is a lovely example of the familiar Babykin design, with its full gathered skirt, sheer little sleeves and broad rounded collar delicately embroidered in blue with a tiny pink flower accent.
This is the same wonderful Effanbee dress design that was also made in pink — but here in the palest, prettiest shade of green. The dress retains its original Effanbee label and is worn over her original slip.
She also has her original pink coat and matching bonnet — and what a transformation! The soft pink is simply beautiful against her coloring and makes a wonderful second presentation for this little baby.
An additional lace-trimmed white bonnet is included. It is not part of her original Effanbee layette, but is a lovely vintage addition and looks especially sweet with the pale green organdy dress.
Also included are her original Effanbee BabyKin little stockings, soft baby shoes, and her delightful pink-and-white baby 'eiderdown; blanket wrap with matching hood, and the added whimsical blue-and-white jointed baby toy shown in the photographs.
Tucked into that enormous pink baby wrap, with only her sweet little face peeking out, she looks ready to be gathered up and carried straight to the nursery!
CONDITION
This is a lovely approximately 90-year-old composition Babykin who has been enjoyed and cared for — but she is not a mint doll, and we want her new owner to know exactly what to expect.
Her composition remains very attractive overall, with lovely color and soft cheek blush. There is fine age crazing, faint rubs to her pretty molded-hair head, and some paint loss at a couple of the joints. Her original painted eyebrows are now missing.
None of this, in my opinion, takes away from the wonderful character of her little face — but it is part of her history and should be noted.
Please examine all of the photographs carefully. We have included undressed views so that you can see her composition and condition clearly, as well as photographs of her identifying Effanbee Patsy Babykin markings.
And underneath all those pretty clothes is one of the features collectors especially love about these early babies — her wonderful bent-leg infant body, beautifully modeled with a round baby tummy, chubby limbs and those irresistible little feet.
She may not be a pristine, tucked-away-for-nine-decades Babykin...
but she is a wonderfully appealing and honest little baby with a very nice original layette — and enough clothes to keep her new mama happily fussing over her for quite some time.
