Vintage 1930s Effanbee 20" Mold 1 Dy-Dee LOU Baby Doll ~
The wonderful 20" Dy-Dee LOU is one of the most highly sought-after babies in the Effanbee Dy-Dee family, and the early Mold 1 Lou has become increasingly difficult to find. Here is a lovely opportunity to welcome one into your own Dy-Dee nursery.

She has certainly been loved over her many decades, and her sweet face still has all the charm that has attracted generations of "little mommies" to these wonderful Dy-Dee babies.
Before sending her on to her next home, I gave this little Lou some gentle attention of my own. I carefully covered some of the rubs to the painted hair on the back of her head. Her original painted lashes were already missing, so I added brows and replaced her eyes with a beautiful pair of brown glassene eyes that suit her coloring especially well. She also has a small rub on her upper left cheek, which I carefully color-matched to her complexion and is now barely noticeable.
Her molded and painted hair still retains lovely detail around her forehead and sides, framing that unmistakable Mold 1 baby face.
Perhaps most importantly, she retains her original Effanbee rubber body—and it is completely intact. The rubber remains remarkably soft and pliable with little to no dryness and, best of all, no crazing at all. As one would expect after nearly 90 years, her joints are no longer as tight as they once were, but she can still be posed very nicely for display.
Her vintage layette seems to have been waiting just for her. The pink floral-print romper, with its sweet smocked detailing and lace trim, is especially becoming, and its coordinating wide-brim bonnet beautifully frames her face and warm brown eyes. Add one of her little sweaters, coats or pairs of hand-crocheted booties and she can be fussed over and changed to your heart's content.
This little Lou has traveled a long way from the Effanbee factory of the 1930s. Along the way she has been played with, loved, preserved and given a little sympathetic attention where she needed it. Through it all, she has retained the wonderful character that makes these early Dy-Dee babies so irresistible.
