VERY RARE 1940s Effanbee 10" Patsy Babykin — MAGNETIC HANDS — Original Layette + Wardrobe
What a special little Babykin!
This very rarely seen 1940s Effanbee Patsy Babykin with MAGNETIC HANDS is the 10" all-composition version with the later straight toddler legs — and she is a beautiful, all-original doll with NO repairs, repainting or restoration.
What makes this little girl especially unusual are the magnets embedded in the palms of BOTH hands. Both magnets are still working beautifully, allowing Babykin to actually hold her little metal-equipped toys — just as Effanbee intended. Super Fun!
Babykin wears her darling original Effanbee factory layette — a lovely pink dotted Swiss dress with matching bonnet, topped with her sweet white pinafore with eyelet ruffled trim. Her original slip, diaper, undershirt and oilcloth moccasins are also included.
She also has her wonderful creamy white and pink crocheted sweater with matching bonnet.
And because one wardrobe is never quite enough for a little girl, I have added an original Effanbee Patsy Babykin pink taffeta coat, as well as a darling pair of blue flannel pajamas and nightcap.
She also wears her Effanbee Patsy Babykin heart bracelet.
HER MAGNETIC TOYS
Sadly, Babykin's original factory toys disappeared somewhere during the nearly 80 years since she was "born" — as so often happened with these tiny accessories.
For many years it was difficult to know exactly what toys accompanied these Magnetic Hands Babykins when new. I have since seen an original surviving card with the toys still attached, and among them were a red rubber ball and an American flag.
I have therefore given this little girl four replacement/display toys similar in spirit to those originally offered, discreetly adding metal so that her magnetic hands can once again hold and play with them.
Her four toys include:

- Flocked Teddy Bear
- Red Rubber Ball
These four toys are NOT original Effanbee factory accessories and are included as replacement/display toys.
BEAUTIFUL ORIGINAL CONDITION
Babykin has a particularly lovely face with wonderful original coloring. Her rosy cheeks still glow, her little red lips and delicately painted brows remain bright, and she has beautiful brown sleep eyes with full, thick and even brush lashes.
There are a few very light age-related craze lines beneath the finish on her face and some on her body, but they are subtle and not distracting overall.
Her dark brown molded curls retain their lovely original finish, with only a couple of light rubs at the back.
Her composition body is also remarkably nice, and I have included undressed photographs so you can see her condition clearly.

Finding a Patsy Babykin is always fun. Finding this unusual Magnetic Hands Babykin, with both magnets still working, her original layette and so much additional wardrobe, is something quite different.
She is a wonderful example of one of Effanbee's most whimsical Babykin variations — ready to hold her toys again and become a very special addition to a Patsy Family collection.
