This is an extremely rare American Character Tiny Tears baby doll from 1956.
Produced for just a single year in 1956, this charming and exceptional baby is the African American counterpart to the popular Caucasian Tiny Tears doll... she was given the name BABY TEARS to market her unique coloring, although her layette was identical to her 'sister'.
As is common with the rubber body Tiny Tears dolls, Baby Tears' body was hard and brittle and broken; she now has a later issue vinyl doll body that matches her coloring, proportionate size, and style.
Her beautiful head is 'all natural' with no restorations to her lovely face -- still has a healthy glow to her blushed cheeks, and all painted features are completely intact. Her golden brown glassene eyes are crystal clear and have full, thick and even brush lashes and open and close for awake/sleep times.
BABY TEARS comes dressed in a gorgeous, factory made sunny yellow organdy pinafore dress and matching bonnet. The organdy has a baby pink, yellow and blue embroidered motif, and ties at the back with a nice, wide organza bow; closes with two small buttons. Underneath she has a darling pair of vintage 1950s 'rhumba' style panties (party panties!). I have added a darling robe, flannel diaper, and ducky pajamas to round out her layette.
I will ALSO INCLUDE a factory original set of Tiny Tears (Baby Tears) clothing that came with this doll -- dress, bonnet and panties that is in excellent condition (will add a photo later if needed).
I haven't seen one of these little ones in quite a few years, so don't miss out on owning a RARE piece of dolly history.
