My first love... and very hard to find in near perfect condition in this size.
This is the little doll that "started it all" for me over 25 years ago when I began collecting and documenting dolls.
My very first doll as a young child was the 14" size mid-1950's molded hair Betsy Wetsy. In an effort to 'recapture' my own childhood memories I wanted my memories back when my children left the 'nest'. I've come a long way...
This sweet giirl is the larger 16" size with GORGEOUS auburn caracul hair...she is the perfect proportional size to fit in a little girl's arms like a real baby. She is marked appropriately on the nape of her neck.
Betsy comes wearing her floral dress with matching bonnet. French Val lace trim offsets the bodice and wide-brim bonnet.
I will include a nice vintage nursing bottle and this cute little pink elephant toy to make a great display. Underneath she wears a 1950s vintage single-button vest-type undershirt, and a fluffy white diaper. I have added a pair of double pink stripe cotton socks that are 'new old-store stock' and a clean pair of 1950s rubber baby shoes.
This lovely baby has no playwear having been rescued from her box that did not survive well and has been discarded. Betsy's dress is in unplayed with condition with only some light age patina to the lace. I did not launder her dress and bonnet but pressed it lightly.
Baby herself is in minty condition with only a small dot of paint added to the very tip of her nose where the box lid pressed over the decades leaving the tiniest rub. Her face still has the matte finish to the paint; her eyes open and close as they should without receding as they have classically been known to do on this issue doll, and all eyelashes are present -- thick, full and even. One eye is a slightly faded color from the other. She has a high color face with NO rubs and auburn brown curls.
As appropriate, she is marked correctly on the nape of her neck: 16 / Ideal Doll / Made in U.S.A. Her 5-part vinyl body is clean and without marks; give her a healthy squeeze and she squeaks loudly in protest.
