Vintage and EXCEPTIONAL Early 11" Effanbee Mold 1 Dy-Dee-Ette Baby in Original Trunk with Extensive 1930s Layette — Near Mint!

T'was the Night Before Christmas...

What an extraordinary little treasure from the earliest years of Effanbee's beloved Dy-Dee Baby!

Offered is a beautiful 11-inch Mold 1 Dy-Dee-Ette, dating to approximately 1935–1936, accompanied by her original-style three-drawer Dy-Dee trunk and a marvelous collection of authentic early clothing, accessories, and nursery necessities.

Introduced in 1934, Dy-Dee Baby quickly became one of America's most beloved baby dolls. This little darling represents those earliest years, when Effanbee was creating some of its most charming and beautifully detailed dolls and accessories.

The condition of this baby and her remarkable collection is truly exceptional!

A Beautifully Preserved Early Mold 1 Baby

This little Dy-Dee is entirely original, with NO restoration or repainting whatsoever.

Her beautifully molded chocolate-brown hair is nearly flawless, framing an exceptionally sweet face with delicate original coloring.

Her original glassene sleep eyes are especially noteworthy. The eyelashes are the abbreviated-width style characteristic of these very early babies, and every eyelash is present! A lovely distinguishing feature for collectors who appreciate the subtle differences among the earliest Dy-Dee issues.

And then there is her wonderful rubber body!

So often, these early rubber babies have darkened considerably with age or developed cracking, crazing, deterioration, or deflation. This little darling has retained her beautiful, light-colored rubber in extraordinary condition. Even her joints retain their delightful original squeak!

To find an early Dy-Dee so beautifully preserved, with her original features intact and no restoration, is a pleasure indeed.

Her Wonderful Original Dy-Dee Trunk

Accompanying this baby is her marvelous three-drawer Dy-Dee trunk, complete with its colorful illustrated interior lid.

Although these trunks are familiar to Dy-Dee collectors, finding one in such outstanding condition is another matter entirely!

After nearly ninety years, most surviving examples show the effects of childhood play and decades of storage—water staining, peeling exterior paper, musty odors, and considerable wear.

This trunk is in AMAZING condition!

Its exceptionally well-preserved appearance makes it a beautiful home for this precious little baby and her extensive wardrobe.

An Extraordinary Early Dy-Dee-Ette Layette

The collection includes an extensive assortment of authentic early Effanbee clothing and accessories corresponding to the original blue Dy-Dee-Ette layette contents inserts.

Among the many wonderful pieces is her beautiful dress, undergarments, sleeping garments, printed Dy-Dee flannel pieces, knitted clothing, and nursery accessories, all so delightfully displayed in the photographs.

Several accessories deserve particular attention:

RARE ORIGINAL GOLDEN HEART PAPER TAG

The original Dy-Dee-Ette golden heart paper tag is an exceptional survivor. These fragile tags were so easily discarded or damaged, and an authentic example can command approximately $225 on its own!

GENUINE EARLY SILVER FEEDING SPOON

A particularly scarce accessory is her genuine silver feeding spoon—not one of the imitation silver examples or the later pot metal and aluminum versions. A wonderful early detail and very rare!

FIRST-ISSUE BUBBLE PIPE

Her early bubble pipe retains its original wooden bowl and rubber tip, the latter still beautifully preserved. Also included is the early sipping straw, likewise retaining its original rubber tip.

AUTHENTIC EARLY DY-DEE BRACELET

Her little Dy-Dee bracelet is a genuine early example, not a reproduction or one of the later bracelets supplied with sets from the late 1940s and early 1950s.

ORIGINAL ESMOND DY-DEE EIDERDOWN BLANKET

Another especially desirable accessory is her original Dy-Dee Esmond eiderdown blanket, made specifically for Effanbee's Dy-Dee Baby. These wonderful little blankets have become quite scarce.

ORIGINAL PERIOD PAPERWORK

The collection also includes the early Dy-Dee brochure, dated 1934 on the reverse, together with the blue Dy-Dee-Ette layette contents inserts.

The 1934 brochure is especially appealing because it represents Dy-Dee's very first year of introduction. This particular doll is believed to date to approximately 1935–1936, before the subsequent brochure revision in 1937.

A Few Special Additions

Nearly all of this delightful collection consists of authentic early Effanbee pieces, with a handful of carefully chosen additions.

The lovely white knitted sweater and bonnet were made for Peggy Montei, who provided much of the information and photographs of her dolls in Barbara Hilliker's Dy-Dee reference book, and were acquired from her estate. Peggy and I were friends, and I was fortunate to acquire a number of wonderful items from her collection following her passing.

Also added is the charming custom-made Dy-Dee hot water bottle cover, created several years ago by an acquaintance especially for these beloved babies. The little booties are newly made additions.

And the sweet bunny accompanying our baby has been her faithful companion for more than thirty years, throughout my own stewardship of this precious collection.

A Truly Special Early Dy-Dee-Ette

There is something especially wonderful about finding an early baby whose beautiful original condition has survived the passage of nearly a century.

But to find her accompanied by such an extensive, authentic layette, so many scarce early accessories, wonderful original paperwork, and a trunk preserved in such remarkable condition makes this an especially desirable collector's presentation.

This little Dy-Dee has been lovingly preserved and enjoyed for many years, and she is now ready to bring her considerable charm to another fortunate collection.

An exceptional opportunity for the serious Effanbee Dy-Dee collector!

Please enjoy the extensive photographs, which are an important part of her description and illustrate the beautiful condition and contents of this remarkable ensemble.
