Vintage late 1940s Effanbee 15" Mold 3 Dy-Dee Jane — Rare RED Rabbit-Fur Hair & Original Wardrobe
What a strikingly beautiful baby —
This lovely 15" Effanbee Dy-Dee Jane is Mold 3 in the evolution of Effanbee's beloved Dy-Dee baby doll — an important part of the company's famous “Dolls That Steal Your Heart” era.
And this little Jane certainly lives up to the slogan.
Mold 3 brought a distinctly different look to Dy-Dee Jane, including the newer glassene sleep eyes, and this baby has a particularly lovely pair in a clear shade of blue, still framed by a full complement of thick, even brush lashes.
But then there is that hair...
Rare RED Rabbit-Fur Hair
Jane has the very unusual rabbit-fur hair found on only a small number of these dolls — and hers is an especially wonderful shade of light red-auburn.
Very few of these little ones turn up today. Rather than the more familiar curled Dy-Dee coiffure, her short, softly tousled rabbit-fur hair frames that round little face beautifully and gives her an unmistakable personality all her own. And RED? Well, that makes this little girl awfully hard to forget.
Her face is equally lovely. Delicate painted brows and lower lashes, softly blushed cheeks and her tiny open rosebud mouth remain beautifully defined. Her complexion is wonderfully even, giving her that special glow that makes certain Dy-Dees simply stand apart from the crowd.
An Original Effanbee Wardrobe
This little treasure comes with a wonderful collection of original Effanbee clothing — everything pictured:
- Original Effanbee factory pink gingham cotton “window-pane” dress with matching bonnet
- Classic Effanbee Dy-Dee drop-seat “Dr. Denton” style pink rosebud flannel pajamas with matching robe
- White cotton undershirt
- White birdseye-weave Dy-Dee cotton diaper
- Peachy-pink “eiderdown” two-piece snowsuit with attached peaked hood and matching knit booties
- Pink silk coat with rick-rack trim
- Pink cotton socks
- Darling vintage lamb toy
All clothing is in good to excellent condition.
The pink gingham is particularly charming on this little redhead, while her soft pink coat and cozy eiderdown snowsuit give her several completely different ways to display.
Baby Herself...
Jane is in very nice condition — not a perfect baby, perhaps, but a perfectly lovely one.
Her painted facial features remain beautifully defined and intact, with lovely cheek color and that sweet little open mouth. There is a pinpoint spot of color loss on the very tippety-tip of her nose — barely perceptible, but worth mentioning. Her soft inset rubber ears show only the lightest crazing.
Her rare rabbit-fur hair remains in good condition with some expected light wear from age.
Jane's rubber body is equally lovely, retaining nice, even color. As one would expect after more than eight decades, the rubber is no longer as supple as when new, and there are a couple of small surface creases and the expected minor signs of age. Her fingers and toes are perfect, and her joints move, pose and hold nicely and easily.
Her glassene sleep eyes open and close freely and retain their full complement of thick, even brush lashes.
She may not be the absolutely perfect Dy-Dee baby — but somehow that doesn't seem to matter very much when you look at her. With that beautiful face, wonderful original wardrobe and extraordinary little head of RED rabbit-fur hair, this is one Dy-Dee Jane with a personality entirely her own.
And perhaps one who is ready to steal another heart.
