1940s Effanbee 15" Mold 2 Dy-Dee Jane with Rare Auburn Caracul Curls
What a beautiful baby — and oh, those curls!
This lovely 15" Effanbee Dy-Dee Jane is an EARLY issue of Mold 2 in the evolution of Effanbee's beloved Dy-Dee baby doll — an important part of the company's famous “Dolls That Steal Your Heart” era.
And this little Jane certainly lives up to the slogan.
The early Mold 2 issue is distinguished by the wonderful large metal sleep eyes — these in a particularly pretty shade of clear BLUE. Their bright whites provide a striking contrast to the smaller plastic eyes used on later versions, which have a tendency to discolor with age.
And Then There Is That Hair...
Jane's AUBURN caracul wig is quite extraordinary — thick, dense curls cover her head from front to back, with no thinning or bald areas to interrupt that wonderful mass of curls.
The color is especially beautiful: a rich, warm auburn that makes a striking combination with her enormous blue eyes.
This is one of those rare cases where the photographs really can tell the story — just look at those curls!
Irish descent, perhaps? Whatever her ancestry, this is one very lucky baby.
Her face is equally lovely. Delicate painted brows and lower lashes, softly blushed cheeks and her tiny open rosebud mouth remain beautifully defined. Her complexion is wonderfully even, giving her face that special glow that makes certain Dy-Dees simply stand apart from the crowd.

The colorful period graphics show a little doll mother demonstrating the very features that made Dy-Dee such a sensation — Dy-Dee drinks from her bottle... sips from her straw... cries for her bottle... blows bubbles — with the corresponding nursery accessories still displayed alongside them.

For today's collector, it is difficult to separate the charm of the doll from the charm of the presentation.

Baby Herself...
Jane is in wonderful condition — and quite simply a show-stopper.
Her painted facial features remain beautifully defined and intact, with lovely cheek color and that sweet little open mouth. Her soft inset rubber ears show no crazing.
Her fabulous auburn caracul wig remains exceptionally thick and full. The photographs include views from the side and back so you can see just how beautifully those curls have survived.
Jane's rubber body is equally lovely, retaining nice, even color with only the expected signs of age, where the rubber is not as supple, and no problems of note. Her fingers and toes are perfect, and her joints move, pose and hold nicely and easily.
Her enormous blue metal sleep eyes retain a full complement of thick, even brush lashes. They open and close freely — and yes, there is even a photograph of this sleepy baby tucked into her box with those big blue eyes closed.
Taken altogether — the early Mold 2 features, enormous blue metal eyes, unusual auburn caracul curls, beautiful condition, original Effanbee clothing, extensive layette, retail display box and surviving nursery accessories — this is a very special Dy-Dee Jane.
She is one of those babies who doesn't merely photograph beautifully.
