Darling and ever-popular 18" Vogue Baby Dear, designed by beloved illustrator Eloise Wilkin — with that unmistakably sweet, pouty Baby Dear face that has made these babies irresistible to collectors for more than sixty years.
 
This little one is the later redesigned version with rooted hair over the entire head, rather than the original “Top Knot” hair construction used on the earliest dolls. Although Baby Dear dolls continued to carry the 1960 date marking on the upper back of the left leg, this all-over rooted hairstyle followed the original Top Knot version.
 
And what a sweet baby she is!
 
She has lovely golden-blonde rooted hair, bright blue painted eyes, rosy cheeks and that wonderful solemn little mouth that gives Baby Dear so much personality. Her hair is clean and bright. There is some hair loss along the front hairline, but it is concealed beneath her bangs and does not detract from her adorable appearance.
 
Her vinyl head has been carefully cleaned and lightened to improve age-related overall discoloration. Her complexion is now a warm peachy-pink — somewhat deeper in tone than many Baby Dears I have had in my Vogue nursery — and she has no distracting rubs or marks.
 
Baby has been given a beautifully restored, immaculately clean cloth body, replacing the badly deteriorated body she had when she came to me. The body has been thoroughly cleaned inside and out and returned to a lovely baby pink. She has been softly restuffed with just enough fresh natural kapok to give her that wonderful floppy, cuddly Baby Dear quality — her head drapes naturally and she can be arranged in oh so many adorable poses.
 
There were three tiny pinpoint breaks in the body fabric, which I carefully stabilized and sealed as unobtrusively as possible. Please look closely at the undressed photographs; you may be able to spot my handiwork. Her vinyl arms and legs are lovely and clean.
 
Fat, sassy and wonderfully cuddly, she sits comfortably and seems to acquire a different personality every time you move an arm, turn her head or change her clothes.

Everything is clean, fresh and ready for display — although Baby Dear would much rather be cuddled and fussed over.
 
If you collect these little darlings, you already know that Baby Dears are rather like potato chips — it is almost impossible to stop at one. Dress them often, because they look charming in nearly everything and seem to positively enjoy all the attention.
