Vintage 1950s American Character Platinum Caracul 16" Tiny Tears baby doll
 
This is an extremely rare. early 1950s issue Tiny Tears with the soft, darker hands down rubber body; a rich, darker facial complexion, and large metal eyes --  all  featured in the early production dolls. where subsequent issues favored smaller eyes, lighter complexions, and pinker, harder rubber bodies.
 
Baby Tiny Tears has the RARE PLATINUM caracul (lambswool) wig; super big eyes with the 'whitest whites' and full, even brush lashes; rich and vibrant facial coloring and well-defined features; and a soft rubber hands down rubber body. Her head is FLAWLESS -- luscious platinum blond curls with no shedding or thin spots; perfect, FLAWLESS high-color face... ALL ORIGINAL with NO TOUCH UPS OR REPAINTS... this is not a restored doll.
 
Baby wears her original blue cotton dimity dress with matching ruffled bonnet and full slip that has matching cotton lace trim. Her feet are covered with her warm and cozy pink-and-white knit booties. Her dress set is in excellent condition that is not faded, but bright blue and gorgeous. There is a smattering of light spots on the back of one side of the bodice, but otherwise perfect.
 
Her lovely rubber body is nearly perfect with only a small patch of crazing at the upper back of one arm. These early rubber bodies, though darker than subsequent issue dolls, age well as the rubber slurry used to produce them didn't harden and have stood the test of time. It is strong and her limbs move freely and she poses easily and firmly. No fear dressing and playing with this one if so desired.
 
This little doll comes around 'once in a blue moon' and is highly desired and coveted by collectors of Tiny Tears and American Character dolls, and would be a prize of any collection.
