1930s Effanbee 10" Patsy BABYKIN – Bent Leg Baby – ORIGINAL WARDROBE
Sweet little Babykin...
There is just something irresistible about these tiny early Effanbee babies — and this exceptionally lovely 10" Patsy Babykin is a particularly beautiful example.
Dating from the 1930s, Babykin belongs to Effanbee's celebrated Patsy family and is the wonderful little all-composition infant with the distinctive drawn-up baby legs, beautifully modeled baby hands and feet, and molded curls sweeping across her forehead.
At only about 10" from head to toe, she has all the charm and personality of her larger Patsy relatives tucked into one very small — and very appealing — package.
And what a pretty little face she has!
Her original head and complexion remain remarkably fresh, with wonderful rosy cheek color, delicately painted brows and tiny red lips. Her original blown-glass sleep eyes remain in place, with the irises professionally restored in a brilliant, vivid green that is especially striking against her soft pink coloring and warm brown molded hair. She retains all of her original brush lashes.
There are only a few stray, very light craze lines beneath the paint on her otherwise original head.
Babykin's composition body has been professionally restored, and her limbs were restrung so that she poses beautifully. This work was performed by the exceptionally talented Mark Hartley, whose restoration work was among the finest and who, sadly, is no longer able to provide his remarkable services.
She is appropriately marked at both the nape of her neck and on her back. Patsy Babykin is also pictured in Patricia N. Schoonmaker's Patsy Doll Family Encyclopedia, Vol. II.
A Little Wardrobe All Her Own...
And this Babykin comes with a wonderful little wardrobe!
Her crisp pink organdy dress is original to Babykin, complete with its original Effanbee tag. The dress is accompanied by its darling matching ruched and ruffled pink organdy bonnet and original slip — a beautiful ensemble on her and positively perfect with those green eyes.
She also has her original undershirt and tiny original oilcloth moccasins.
For cooler days, Babykin has her charming original blue and cream sweater with matching hat. The soft blue is another wonderful complement to her coloring and gives her an entirely different little personality.
Her sweet printed flannel robe/kimono is vintage and lovingly "mommy made" rather than an Effanbee factory garment. The little Chix print diaper is also vintage; I cut it down to Babykin size myself because every proper baby needs a diaper. 😊
And because no little one should arrive without something to love, Babykin will bring along her tiny flocked teddy bear and little lamb toy.
This is a wonderfully appealing early Babykin — the desirable infant version with drawn-up legs, beautiful original head and facial coloring, professionally restored brilliant green eyes, a beautifully restored body, and an unusually generous assortment of original clothing.
She's tiny, she's round, she's rosy...
and she is very, very Babykin.
