This is an extremely rare American Character Tiny Tears baby doll from 1956.
 
Produced for just a single year in 1956, this charming and exceptional baby is the African American counterpart to the popular Caucasian Tiny Tears doll... she was given the name BABY TEARS to market her unique coloring, although her layette was identical to her 'sister'.
 
As is common with the rubber body Tiny Tears dolls, Baby Tears' body was hard and brittle and broken; she now has a later issue vinyl doll body that matches her coloring, proportionate size, and style.
 
Her beautiful head is 'all natural' with no restorations to her lovely face -- still has a healthy glow to her blushed cheeks, and all painted features are completely intact. Her golden brown glassene eyes are crystal clear and have full, thick and even brush lashes and open and close for awake/sleep times.
 
Baby comes in her original fleur-de-lis case with all her original accessories and clothing -- all in MINT CONDITION -- unplayed with, making this a fabulous display.
 
Baby comes with the following factory original Tiny Tears accessories that came with this set: Tiny Tears rubber PACIFIER completely intact; white terry WASHCLOTH; small washing SPONGE (still soft); Tiny Tears own small cake of IVORY SOAP and package of KLEENEX brand tissues; BUBBLE PIPE with rubber tip; and glass NURSING BOTTLE w/rubber nipple.
 
Factory original Tiny Tears clothing that came with this doll include: signature Tiny Tears monogrammed ROMPER; birdseye weave. triangle DIAPER and pins; PINK and WHITE DRESS with matching PANTIES (elastic still tight and nice and springy!!); matching bonnet; whimsical print flannel kimono robe; pink-and-white knit booties.
