RARE doll -- 16" E.I. Horsman & Co. Baby Buttercup from the early 1930's, and produced for only ONE year. She is highlighted in Ursula Mertz's book of "Collectors Encyclopedia of American Composition Dolls".

Baby Buttercup has BEAUTIFUL ALL ORIGINAL coloring, with sweet blushed cheeks. She was purchased 'as found' in her original complete outfit  -- all clothing in mint condition.

Buttercup is in MINT ALL ORIGINAL condition --NO Restorations of any kind.

This is the medium size of the Buttercup dolls produced and is about 16" tall (sitting 14" with her cute drawn up "baby" legs). She has a composition flange head, full arms and bent baby legs on a cloth body with a working crier inside. -- VERY RARE TO FIND WITH A WORKING CRIER. She is immaculately clean without any odors; her cloth body has virtually NO WEAR. She is jointed at the shoulders and hips. ALL ORIGINAL doll with NO paint RESTORATION, Buttercup has PERFECT molded painted blonde hair, and an open closed mouth. Her body has original paint. NO CRAZING AT ALL -- NONE ANYWHERE -- ON THIS BEAUITIFUL BABY -- with smooth, even toned composition. The back of her hands, elbows and knees still retain their original healthy glow of blush.

SHE HAS THE RARE Pink CELLULOID fingers and toenails -- Very special feature to a short handful of Effanbee dolls from the 1930s.

She is is marked appropriately on the nape of her neck. Her ORIGINAL tin litho eyes are perfect, opening and closing as they should with ALL of her brush lashes present, full, thick and even. All painted features are clearly defined and intact with just enough blush to compliment her creamy 'porcelain-like' complexion.

Baby Buttercup is dressed ALL ORIGINAL: Horsman FACTORY organdy GOWN with matching BONNET, full SLIP, DIAPER and cotton flannel VEST (undershirt). She wears her original side-snap oilcloth shoes and cotton socks. Her 'baby sweet' dress is made of white cotton organdy with French val lace trim. Her bonnet retains it's original pink silk ribbons, with light wear from having been tied in a bow for almost 90 years now. The entire outfit is complete and original.

INCLUDES her ORIGINAL HORSMAN Silver and Blue hang tag, pinned in front.

I have added a new, old-store-stock blue rubber teething ring for added display and play value (will include it's original cardboard backing/packaging as well).

.

The historical value and short production run lend this little cutie all the desirable characteristics of a highly collectible doll. Truly a RARE find for any collector of Horsman or composition dolls.
