Vintage early 1930s Effanbee Patsy Babykin * Earliest issue mold -- Babykin has a completely different look than the Babykin we are all more familiar with today.
INCLUDES her Effanbee metal golden heart wrist tag that says "BabyKin" AND a paper heart tag in her basket.
This 10" 'painted eye' version was marketed in 1931, initially offered with composition limbs and a cloth body. It is the same head mold used for the very rare Effanbee Dancing Patsy Dolls (see page 22 inthe "Patsy Doll Family Encyclopedia, Vol. II"). This mold transitioned to the familar classic issue of the Babykin with the infant drawn up baby legs. This doll was issued for less than one year and is very rare. As is appropriate her head is not marked, and her body is marked Effanbee Patsy Baby.
She comes in her FAO SCHWARZ 'picnic hamper basket' with her entire original trousseau.
- White organdy long gown w/matching bonnet and slip. Both gown and slip close at the back with tiny button and thread loop trim.
- Pink organdy short dress w/matching bonnet and slip, Both dress and slip close at the back with tiny button and thread loop trim
- Pink silk coat w/matching bonnet
- White flannel robe
- Pink cotton seersucker nightgown with French Val Lace trim
- White flannel 'triangle' diaper
- Rayon undershirt
- White flannel blanket with pink satin trim
- VERY RARE white leather shoes with Pom-Poms
Her clothes are in excellent to mint condition for the most part. The pink silk coat and bonnet have wear to the delicate fabric and need to be handled gently, but she is modeling it today and it went on fine; the silk ties are abbreviated after over 80 years. The long gown is fabulous, as is her darling nightie gown.
The hamper basket was one of many issued by FAO Schwarz in the 1930s and highlighted in their Christmas catalogs. The inside of the basket has two cardboard sheets covered in pink silk fabric and lace; many pink silk ribbons are attached where once her clothing was secured. There is even a 'silver' HEART attached to the inside of the lid with a pink ribbon. The wicker has seen better days but it closes nicely and the handle is still attached.
BABYKIN herself is in remarkable condition! Her body is nearly mint with very little signs of age, and NO crazing. Her beautiful and special blonde head has no crazing on her curls, and extremely faint crazing on her face that one would need to examine very closely to see. All of her painted features are intact... with darling side-glancing eyes.
This is an extremely rare doll. I have only seen one other along with two sets of the dancing dolls with this mold. FABULOUS SET for the Patsy Family doll collector.
