RARE 1940s Vintage Madame Alexander 9" Angel Cherub Baby Doll
Rarest and most desired of the family of Cherub dolls issued in the 1940s by Mdme Alexander. I have three different issues of this darling baby doll in my shop.
This sweet little fella' was issued as the "LIttlest Angel" in the infamous book by Charles Tazwell. His little outfit matches the illustration in the earliest version of the book, which is included with your purchase.
Littlest Angel has some darkening to his stuffed latex rubber body, but NONE of the 'pocking' that plagues these babies... no deterioration of the rubber, and no splitting at all. His outfit has overall age patina; his white felt wings have some spotting that may remove with spot cleaning, but I have left him 'as found'... to me, it illustrates his character as portrayed in the story.
This doll is pictured on page 149 in Vol. 1 of "Madame Alexander Collector's Dolls". He has a blue and white clover leaf tag stating "Madame Alexander" on one side, and "Cherub" on the other side. His Angel costume is TAGGED as well. Underneath his Angelic robe he wears a pair of red-and-white striped "shortalls" -- just as pictured in Tazwell's illustrations throughout the book.
RARE to find this doll at all and his outfit is complete. His little face has FRECKLES sprinkled across his nose, and this further distinguishes him from his other 'plain-faced cousin' cherub dolls.
