Here is an exceptional early 1930s Effanbee 15" Mold 1 Dy-Dee Baby, offered in her original FAO Schwarz red display trunk with a wonderful and unusually complete layette, accessories and original paper ephemera.

This is one of those special Dy-Dee presentations that allows us to see not just the doll, but the entire little world created for her original “Little Mommy.”

Baby has a gorgeous, vibrant face, beautiful rosy coloring, dark molded curls and pretty brown sleep eyes. And just wait until you see everything that comes along with her!

BABY'S WONDERFUL LAYETTE

Featured is her RARE FAO Schwarz issue white cotton organdy dress and slip, along with a lovely pink silk smocked and embroidered coat with matching bonnet.

Her wardrobe also includes:

  • Early Dy-Dee Signature drop-seat pajamas with pearl shell button closures
  • White flannel robe
  • Rayon knit vest/undershirt
  • White birdseye-weave diaper
  • Pink striped cotton socks

And for bedtime, Baby has something particularly special—her extremely rare pink Esmond “Bi-Bye Baby” blanket, an FAO Schwarz exclusive. After her bath and a change into those wonderful Dy-Dee pajamas, she can be wrapped snugly into her pink blankie for a night of extra-sweet sleep.

All of Baby's clothing is in mint to excellent condition, clean, pressed and ready to display.

ACCESSORIES FOR HER LITTLE MOMMY

Baby also comes with a delightful assortment of period accessories, including her Dy-Dee glass nursing bottle with intact rubber nipple, faux-silver feeding spoon, pink pacifier on original silk ribbon; box of Red Cross cotton, early wooden bubble pipe with hardened rubber tip, and darling little bunny rabbit toy.

Also included—but unfortunately forgotten when I took the photographs!—is her original powder canister for diaper-changing time.

Her surviving paper pieces are wonderful. There is a Dy-Dee's Diary dated 1938, together with the matching 1938 Aunt Patsy's “What Every Young Doll Mother Should Know” foldout brochure.

Inside, Effanbee provided instructions to the new Little Mommy for the care and feeding of her Dy-Dee Baby, along with illustrations and descriptions of additional clothing and accessory sets available to expand Baby's layette.

These are the little details that make a set like this so much fun—they recreate the experience of receiving a Dy-Dee Baby all those years ago.

HER ORIGINAL FAO SCHWARZ TRUNK

Baby comes in her wonderful original red FAO Schwarz display trunk, retaining its beautiful, perfect original graphics and the original pink organdy ruffled changing pad—such a charming and rarely surviving part of the presentation.

Please note that in my photographs you can see a small area of loss along the upper front edge of the trunk. This has since been neatly repaired; rather than retake the entire series of photographs, I have left the original photos in the listing so you can see the trunk exactly as it appeared prior to the repair. The trunk displays beautifully and makes a wonderful setting for Baby and her extensive layette.

BABY HERSELF IS A BEAUTY...

Baby has a beautiful PERFECT head with dark molded curls showing NO RUBS—the molded hair is simply gorgeous. She has wonderful rosy cheeks and crisp, vivid painted features.

Her brown glassene sleep eyes are original to the doll and open and close properly. The original irises had deteriorated—commonly referred to by collectors as having “blown”—and the irises have been enhanced. The results are so attractive, and the original eyes themselves so nice, that I chose to preserve them rather than replace them. Her brush lashes are quite full, although shortened on her left eye.

Please remember that this is a very early Mold 1 Dy-Dee Baby.

Her body is equally impressive. The rubber remains smooth, soft and supple, with no hardness, cracking or crazing. All joints move freely but firmly as they should, and every finger and toe is intact and PERFECT.

I hesitate to call the body Mint simply because of its age, but it is in truly wonderful condition. I have included close-up photographs so you can see for yourself just how beautifully this early baby has survived.

A RARE FAO SCHWARZ DY-DEE SET

The little 15" Dy-Dee deserves a place in every Dy-Dee collector's nursery. She loves to sit on my big Dy-Dee Lou's lap and share a storybook.

This is a RARE and remarkably complete early FAO Schwarz Dy-Dee trunk set—a beautiful Mold 1 baby surrounded by the clothing, accessories, literature and nursery pieces that made Dy-Dee such an extraordinary doll in her day.

It would be difficult to duplicate this presentation piece by piece, and rarer still to find it all together in such lovely condition.
